When you get an invitation for the interview you have to be prepared to do your best in demonstrating yourself as a suitable person for the role you applied for. Try to practice as much as possible before your interview, speaking in front of friends to get comfortable, and be ready to answer common questions that your future employer may ask you. We composed a list of the most popular interview questions that will help you to get a position of your dream.
1. Tell me about yourself.
Provide the information based on your resume. Talk about your background, but try to talk for no longer than 2 minutes. Try to highlight some skills or previous experience that would be relevant for the interviewer.
2. What do you know about our company?
Research is very important. Spend few hours before your interview to get as much information as you can about company’s history, reputation, mission, philosophy, size etc. Interviewer will ask you questions about company to see your interest to become an employee.
3. Why do you want to work for us?
You should talk about company needs and how YOU can help them to achieve their goals.
4. Why should we hire you?
Talk about your knowledge, skills, and experience that can be successfully implemented at the potential job. Try to stress you passion to work for this company.
5. Are you a team player?
Remember, it is not just a yes/no question. Obviously, say “yes”, but try to give examples from your life, school, or previous work experience that would prove this fact.
6. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Asking this question, the interviewer is trying to understand your career plan and if the position you applied for would fit into your plan. You can give fairly broad answer, but try to stress your interest in growing with the company you applied to.
7. What are your strengths?
Give at least three and relate them to the company and job you are interviewing for. Provide examples from your life or previous work experience to prove it.
8. What are your weaknesses?
This question is tricky. Try to choose some weaknesses of yours that wouldn’t affect negatively your potential work performance. For example, you can mention public speaking, if you don’t require speaking in public for the position you applied. Or you can say that you can be shy in the beginning, but once you get comfortable and familiar with people you are working with, you are a very easy-going personality. Always try to back up your weakness and try to turn it into strength. For example, you can say that at the beginning some tasks can take you longer to do because you are a detail-oriented person and you prefer to double check things, but once you get more familiar with the tasks you are doing, you speed up.
Also, we would suggest preparing a couple of questions for the interviewer. It will show your interest in the position. Don’t ask too general questions about the company because the interviewer can think that you didn’t research any information about the company and you are not interested in the position. A good example of the questions would be:
What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities for this position?
What are you looking for in the ideal candidate?
Do you have any hesitation about my qualifications?
You can also ask about potential career growth, ask to describe the culture of the company or the team you will be working with. Also, don’t forget to ask about the next steps in the interview process. Remember: don’t ask about salary or benefits till you get to the final stage of the interviewing process.
